题目材料:
In contrast to DeMallie and Finn, Godfrey argues that Ella Deloria' s primary goal both in her ethnographic research and in fiction such as Waterlily was less about making her Dakota people intelligible to others than about providing the Dakota with a body of information about traditional culture with which to rebuild an autonomous nation. For Godfrey, Deloria' s lifelong engagement with anthropological research should be conceptualized as operating on two levels. First, Deloria sought, through the production of texts designed for both popular and academic consumption, to correct anthropological and literary misrepresentations of her people. But second, Godfrey also locates Deloria within the Dakota tradition of women as individuals who preserve and communicate manners, language, and cultural values and thereby contribute to tribal survival.
